1969 - 1971Karl Francis Warner was born in 1950 in Marlborough, Massachusetts. He spent his early childhood in this small town before his family moved to California when he was around 18 years old. This move placed them in the San Jose area, where Warner attended high school at Oak Grove High School.
In high school, Warner was known to be a good student, particularly in subjects like mathematics. He had friends and was seen as a typical teenager, not someone who stood out in a negative way. He participated in ordinary school activities and blended in with his classmates. After graduating, he went on to attend San Jose City College, where he continued his education.
During his time in San Jose, Warner lived with his parents. Their home was located near the area where several tragic events would later unfold. He was described by peers and acquaintances as normal and friendly, without any early signs that would have indicated the violent actions he would go on to commit.
As he continued his life in California, there were hints of troubling behavior. Warner was already a suspect in a separate unsolved knife assault on another woman. However, he was generally viewed as just another college student, which made the later events surrounding his actions shocking to those who knew him.
Warner's life took a major turn when he became involved in a series of tragic incidents that would define his later years. Those closest to him would later struggle to reconcile their memories of him with his actions. He eventually faced serious legal consequences for his actions, leading to a life sentence in prison.
On August 3, 1969, Karl Francis Warner murdered two teenage girls, Deborah Furlong, 14, and Kathy Snoozy, 15. Their bodies were found in a wooded area in San Jose's southern Almaden Valley. The medical examiner reported that the girls had suffered nearly 300 knife wounds.
Later, on April 11, 1971, Warner killed another girl named Kathy Bilek, who was 18 years old. She was at Villa Montalvo in Saratoga, enjoying birdwatching when she was attacked. Her body was discovered the next day, having been stabbed 49 times.
After the murder of Kathy Bilek, police received tips leading them to Karl Warner. He was a former classmate of Furlong and Snoozy and lived nearby. A search warrant was executed, and authorities found a knife that linked him to the crime.
In September 1971, Karl Warner confessed to the murders of all three girls. He was sentenced to life in prison and is currently incarcerated at California Medical Facility in Vacaville.
