— Justin Lee May
Justin Lee May was born on April 26, 1946, in the United States. Before the capital murder case that led to his execution, May had an established criminal record. His prior convictions included robbery by assault, forgery-related offenses, aggravated assault, and an earlier murder conviction linked to the 1978 Yale Street killings. These offenses showed a history of violent and property-related crime. By 1978, May was involved in armed robberies and fatal shootings in Texas. Those crimes resulted in multiple murder charges, a later death sentence, and his execution in 1992.
In June 1978, Justin Lee May was linked to the Yale Street murders in Texas, a separate robbery-related case involving three homicide victims. Those killings were later introduced in court as part of his prior violent criminal history.
On June 27, 1978, May and accomplice Richard Miles robbed a Western Auto store in Freeport, Texas, where owners Frank Murdaugh and Jeanetta Murdaugh were shot and killed. The case remained unsolved for several years until both men were indicted in 1984. Miles later testified for the prosecution, and in February 1985 May was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death. After unsuccessful appeals, he was executed in Texas on May 7, 1992.
