murder story

In November 2012, Julia Rhoton Andrews was involved in a deadly incident that resulted in the murder of Randy Peddy. On the evening of November 28, Andrews and Peddy had a confrontation at her home in Vidor, Texas. Peddy was reported to be intoxicated after initially visiting Andrews to help repair her car.

During the day, Andrews discovered Peddy was drinking vodka. Concerned about his behavior, she took him to his father's home. However, Peddy returned later in the day while still under the influence of alcohol. Following some initial interactions with family members, Peddy approached Andrews to discuss his relationship with her daughter, which Andrews felt was inappropriate.

Tensions escalated when Peddy, upset after police were called to check on the situation, started vandalizing Andrews' car by throwing foundation blocks at it. Andrews attempted to stop him, but their verbal altercation turned physical. In response, Andrews went into her home and fetched a .22 rifle that was kept loaded behind her bedroom door.

Upon returning to the porch, Andrews claimed she only intended to scare Peddy. When he shouted for her to shoot him, she fired the rifle three times. One bullet struck Peddy in the chest, fatally injuring him. Despite Andrews’ claims of acting out of fear, witnesses and the trajectory of the shots raised questions about her claims of self-defense.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after and found Peddy lying in the yard, unable to be revived. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. A pathologist determined the bullet penetrated Peddy's heart and spine. His blood alcohol content was significantly above the legal limit, indicating he was heavily intoxicated at the time.

Andrews was taken into custody and charged with murder. During her trial, she expressed remorse for her actions but argued that she acted out of fear for her life. On August 8, 2013, a jury found her guilty of murder, and she was sentenced to 44 years in prison.
