Bio

Juan Segundo was born on January 25, 1963, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in a Hispanic family. During his childhood, he faced various challenges. His family struggled with financial difficulties. As a result, his education was affected, and he only completed up to the seventh grade.

As a young man, Segundo took on odd jobs to help support himself. He worked as a landscaper and a general laborer. His early life was marked by instability. This instability led him to make choices that would bring him into conflict with the law. In June 1988, two years after a significant incident in his life, he was convicted of burglary of a habitation. This crime resulted in a ten-year prison sentence.

After serving some time, he was paroled in July 1989. However, soon after, he encountered more legal trouble. He was arrested again in 1991 following a conviction for a misdemeanor burglary. He faced several other legal issues, which resulted in further time spent in prison for offenses like driving while intoxicated.

As he approached his 40s, Segundo's life seemed to shift. His stepbrother noted that he had changed a lot since his earlier years. They had not always gotten along, but they began to grow closer. Segundo stopped drinking and appeared to be on a better path. But tensions from his past continued to follow him.

Murder Story

On August 3, 1986, Juan Segundo attacked 11-year-old Vanessa Villa in her home in Tarrant County, Texas. He entered her residence, then raped and strangled her. After the attack, Vanessa's family returned home to find her unconscious. She was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead within an hour.

For nearly 19 years, her murder remained unsolved. In April 2005, law enforcement made a significant breakthrough. They connected DNA found at the crime scene to Juan Segundo. He was arrested on April 19, 2005, at his home in Johnson County.

During the investigation, eyewitness accounts revealed that Vanessa had chosen to stay home alone while her family ran an errand. When her family came back, they discovered the disturbing scene. Police believed that Segundo entered through her bedroom window. Evidence suggested that there was a struggle before her death.

Juan Segundo had a prior criminal history, including serving time for burglary and driving while intoxicated. After his arrest in 2005, he was held in jail with a bail set at $300,000. He was ultimately sentenced to death on February 15, 2007. The case highlighted the importance of DNA technology in solving crimes, particularly cold cases like Vanessa's.
