On the afternoon of 21 May 1928, at approximately 6:00 p.m., José Marimón Carles left his home in Pobla de Ferran carrying a shotgun. Soon after leaving, he encountered three children in the street and persuaded them to accompany him to a hayloft, telling them it was so they could watch him kill pigeons. Once at the hayloft, he killed all three children.
After these initial killings, he returned to his home to reload ammunition. He then left again and repeated a similar approach with two additional children, bringing them to another hayloft, where he killed them as well. The account then states that while returning toward the village, he encountered another child and killed the child in the street.
He continued the attack by entering a house and killing the owner. After returning to the street, he shot two women. The narrative also states that he attacked a third woman with an axe. The excerpt does not explicitly state the outcome of the axe attack; however, the same summary states that ten people died in total, most of them women and children.
After the attacks in the village, Marimón Carles fled into the surrounding wooded areas and mountains. The account states that the absence of men in the village at that time, due to field work, allowed him to escape with little immediate resistance. The mayor summoned the local militia, and with assistance from the Civil Guard, a pursuit began. The manhunt continued for nearly a week as the searchers attempted to locate him in the surrounding terrain.
On 27 May 1928, at around 8:00 a.m., a group of militia members and Civil Guards located him hiding in an oat field, where he was found asleep. A Civil Guard corporal aimed a weapon at him. The account states that when Marimón Carles realized the situation and attempted to reach for his shotgun, the corporal shot him in the head, killing him immediately. The narrative specifies that the projectile entered through his left eye and exited through the back of his head. After he was killed, his body was taken to the cemetery in Passanant.
