Bio

Johnny Taylor Jr. was born in 1954. He grew up in Louisiana. Little is known about his early life, but various reports suggest he had a challenging upbringing. As a young man, he likely faced difficulties that shaped his later decisions.

He became involved in crime at a relatively young age. Taylor's life took a wrong turn, and he became known for his involvement in theft and robbery. These criminal activities would later escalate into more serious offenses.

In the years leading up to his later crimes, Taylor struggled with various issues that may have influenced his choices. He was eventually arrested for an unrelated auto theft in Alabama in June 1980, just a few months after a murder he would later be convicted of committing.

Murder Story

On February 8, 1980, David Vogler, Jr. received a phone call from a man interested in buying a car he had for sale. The car was a red 1976 Buick Regal, left in a parking lot in Kenner, Louisiana. After discussing the sale, Vogler left his home in his Cadillac to meet the caller. He was not seen alive again.

Around 12:45 a.m. on February 9, 1980, Vogler’s wife and her family went to the parking lot looking for him. They found his Cadillac still there but the Buick was missing. Inside the Cadillac, they spotted Vogler’s coat. Concerned, they contacted the police, but were told to return the next day.

The next morning, Vogler's brother-in-law looked inside the Cadillac and saw blood on the seats. Alarmed, he called the police again. The officers opened the trunk and discovered Vogler's body, which had been stabbed multiple times.

Detectives started an investigation, interviewing nearby business owners and customers but found no leads. Due to rain, the Buick was towed to a garage for inspection. Fingerprints and hair samples were collected from the Cadillac, where the body was found.

On June 14, 1980, Johnny Taylor, Jr. was stopped for a traffic violation in Alabama. He was found driving the stolen Buick Regal. When police checked the car's registration, they confirmed it had been reported stolen, and Taylor fled the scene.

Taylor was apprehended and brought in for questioning. Detectives confronted him regarding the Buick and took his fingerprints, which were later linked to the Cadillac where Vogler’s body was located. This evidence, along with hair samples, pointed to Taylor's connection to the crime.

He was arrested on June 17, 1980, for another auto theft. By August, he had been indicted for the murder of Vogler. During the trial, the evidence showed that Taylor had committed the crime during an armed robbery. He was found guilty, and the jury recommended the death penalty due to the heinous nature of the murder.

Johnny Taylor was executed by electrocution on February 29, 1984. His last words expressed regret for the harm he caused and mentioned his faith in God.
