1987John van Trung Tran was born in 1964. He grew up in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Not much information is available about his early childhood or family background. As he grew older, he became engaged to a woman named Lieu Huynh. Their relationship was significant in his life.
In late September 1987, Lieu Huynh broke off their engagement. Shortly after, she became engaged to another man. This change upset Tran greatly. Feeling rejected and angry, he started planning for revenge against Lieu. His feelings of betrayal grew stronger as he thought about the situation.
On October 10, 1987, John van Trung Tran committed a mass murder in Sydney, Australia. He had been engaged to Lieu Huynh, but she broke off their engagement in late September and immediately became engaged to another man. This upset Tran, and he planned his revenge.
Tran arrived at Lieu's family home and began his attacks. The first victim was Thuan Huynh, Lieu’s father. He shot him multiple times, and Thuan managed to escape to the backyard, but he died soon after from his injuries. Tran then moved inside the house, where he killed Lieu’s mother, her sister, and her brother. Another brother was also seriously injured during the attack.
Tran eventually found Lieu in the house. He shot her, completing his act of revenge. After this, he turned the gun on himself and took his own life. Remarkably, Lieu’s two other sisters were present but were not harmed, as Tran had completed his mission. In total, Tran killed five people and wounded one before ending his own life.
