Bio

John Sapp was born in 1949. He grew up in California, but his early life details are not widely documented. By his teenage years, he was already showing signs of trouble. He had a difficult upbringing and faced various challenges. As he grew older, he did not settle in one place for long. Instead, he became a drifter, moving frequently around the state.

In his twenties, Sapp was involved in drugs and worked as a dealer. This lifestyle often led him into conflict with the law. By the time he was 32, he had spent much of his life in state and county institutions. He faced numerous legal problems, including time spent in prison.

One significant event was the disappearance of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Duarte, in 1981. She was 24 years old at the time. Sapp was charged with burning her home and was imprisoned for two years as a result. Even after his release, Duarte remained missing. This tragic outcome affected Sapp's life and actions significantly.

Sapp’s relationship with his family was complicated. His mother, Geraldine Sapp, was also a part of his life during the 1980s. He moved in with her around 1985. However, after that time, she disappeared, and no one had seen her since. This situation raised concerns about Sapp’s involvement in her life as well.

Murder Story

John Sapp was involved in a series of murders between 1975 and 1986. His first known victim was John Abono, who disappeared in December 1975. Abono was 22 years old and living in Concord, California. He went to buy marijuana from Sapp, who was a friend. After Abono went to Sapp's house to make the purchase, he was never seen again. In 1986, Sapp admitted to having killed Abono. He claimed that he became angry with Abono due to bad drug deals and decided to shoot him.

Sapp led police to the area near Castle Rock on Mount Diablo where he killed Abono. He stated that he shot Abono multiple times in the head and then buried his body. However, when authorities searched the area, they could not locate Abono's remains.

The next victim was Elizabeth Duarte, Sapp's former girlfriend, who vanished in 1981. It wasn't until 1986 that Sapp was charged with her murder as well.

Robert Weber, another victim, was a cocaine dealer who was also killed by Sapp. Weber was last seen in 1985 before his body was found in Colusa County, California.

Sapp's mother, Geraldine Sapp, aged 67, was also a victim. After she disappeared in 1985, police discovered her skeleton in Butte County in 1986. Sapp claimed that someone else killed her, and he had taken care of the killer.

Sapp was arrested in April 1986 for possession of a firearm by a felon. During this arrest, he confessed to the murders of Abono, Duarte, and Weber. Eventually, he was convicted and sentenced to death in June 1991.
