1982John Mills Jr. was born in 1955 in the United States. By 1982, Mills was living in Florida and was connected to Michael Fredrick. The two men were involved in a plan to burglarize and rob a home in Wakulla County. While driving in Mills’s truck, they came across Les Lawhon’s trailer. The crime started as a burglary and robbery but later became a kidnapping, arson, and murder. Mills was forced Lawhon from the trailer and shot him after Lawhon tried to escape.
On March 5, 1982, John Mills Jr. and Michael Fredrick found Les Lawhon’s trailer in Wakulla County, Florida. They were looking for a place to burglarize. Mills got inside by asking Lawhon if he could use the telephone. Once inside, Mills held a knife to Lawhon’s throat. He then took a shotgun from the trailer and forced Lawhon into his truck.
Mills and Fredrick drove Lawhon to an isolated area. When Lawhon tried to escape, Mills shot him with the shotgun. After the killing, Mills and Fredrick returned to Lawhon’s trailer, stole property, and set the home on fire. Michael Fredrick later confessed and led police to Lawhon’s remains. Police also recovered a 12-gauge shotgun and property connected to Lawhon.
Mills was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed burglary, arson, and grand theft. He was sentenced to death. On December 6, 1996, John Mills Jr. was executed by electrocution in Florida. He was 41 years old.
