Bio

John Martini Sr. was born on July 30, 1930. He grew up in the Bronx, New York City. In the mid-1960s, he was convicted of stealing a load of women's underwear. This conviction marked the beginning of his involvement with the law.

After his conviction, he began working with the FBI as an informant. He provided information on mob-related thefts in the trucking industry. For nearly two decades, he shared tips with federal investigators about various criminal activities. However, he lost his status as an informant in 1986 when the FBI believed he made a false claim about a money-laundering scheme.

Throughout his life, Martini had several strained relationships. At one point, he married a woman named Alice and later divorced her. After their divorce, he moved to Arizona, where he worked as a bar employee. His life in Arizona was not without trouble. He faced serious allegations, including the murders of his aunt and her husband in January 1987. However, he was never charged for these crimes.

He was eventually arrested in January 1989 in connection with a kidnapping that resulted in murder. Throughout this time, he was known to have lived under assumed identities, which aided in his evasion of law enforcement.

Martini died in his prison cell on September 10, 2009, after spending many years behind bars for his crimes.

Murder Story

John Martini Sr. committed a series of murders between 1977 and 1989, leading to his arrest in January of 1989. He was responsible for the deaths of six people, including his aunt and her husband, Anna Mary "Paulie" Duvall, Teresa Marie Dempster, David Richard Uhl, and Irving Flax.

In January 1987, Martini allegedly killed his aunt and her husband at their home in Atlantic City. However, he was never charged for these murders. In November 1988, he killed Teresa Dempster, who was 27 and suspected of being a drug supplier, and David Uhl, a 42-year-old salesman, near Glendale, Arizona.

On January 23, 1989, Martini abducted Irving Flax, a warehouse executive in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. He demanded a ransom of $100,000, of which Flax's wife, Marilyn, paid $25,000 at a diner. Despite her compliance, Flax was found dead the next day, shot multiple times in the head.

Martini and his girlfriend, Therese Afdahl, remained in the area after the kidnapping. They were arrested two days later at a motel in Fort Lee, New Jersey, with the ransom money and a gun. While awaiting trial, Martini made threats against his lawyers and attempted to escape from jail.

In November 1990, he was tried for Flax's murder. Although he did not deny his involvement, he claimed drug addiction was a factor. He was convicted and sentenced to death.

In April 1991, Martini's girlfriend was convicted of felony murder in the same case but was not given a maximum sentence.

In August 1992, he pleaded guilty to the murders of Dempster and Uhl in Arizona and received a 50-year sentence.

Martini was later tried in Philadelphia for another murder. He was convicted of the murder of Anna Mary "Paulie" Duvall, which he committed in 1977.

John Martini was sentenced to death in New Jersey and died in prison on September 10, 2009. He had previously faced execution but requested to halt his appeals, only to change his mind later. His cases involved multiple states, complicating his legal battles.
