murder story
John Martin Crawford was a Canadian serial killer who committed crimes in Saskatchewan and Alberta between 1981 and 1992. In 1981, he was sentenced to ten years in prison for manslaughter after killing Mary Jane Serloin in Lethbridge, Alberta. He was released from prison in 1989.
After his release, he was under police surveillance due to his past. During this time, he sexually assaulted a woman named Theresa Kematch. However, Kematch was arrested, and Crawford was not.
In October 1994, some remains of women were found by a hunter in thick brush near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. This discovery led to an investigation that revealed more about Crawford’s crimes. In 1996, he was convicted of one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder related to the deaths of three Indigenous women: Eva Taysup, Shelley Napope, and Calinda Waterhen. For these crimes, he received three concurrent life sentences.
Crawford spent time at the Regional Psychiatric Centre in Saskatoon, where he died on December 16, 2020. His cause of death was not disclosed.
