September 18, 1998John Edward Sansing was born on February 11, 1967. He grew up in a challenging family environment. His parents divorced when he was young. This early instability likely affected him throughout his life. Sansing had little relationship with his biological father. His education was not strong, as he did not complete high school and often received poor grades.
Sansing married and had four children. Despite his family life, he faced several difficulties. Reports suggest he struggled with drug use, which may have impacted his behavior and choices. His upbringing and lack of educational success contributed to a complicated life.
On February 24, 1998, John Edward Sansing called the Living Springs Assembly of God Church and asked for a food box. Later that day, Trudy Calibrese, a volunteer worker, arrived at his home with the food. Once inside, Sansing attacked her from behind and pushed her to the floor. He tied her up with electrical cords and struck her on the head with a broomstick.
After hitting her, he took her car keys and moved her vehicle to another location. Sansing then brought Calibrese into a bedroom, where he sexually assaulted her. Following the assault, he stabbed her multiple times in the abdomen. He left her body in the bedroom while he and his wife slept in the living room.
In the middle of the night, Sansing took Calibrese's body outside and hid it between a shed and a wall in the backyard. His four children were in the house during these events. Sansing was later arrested and faced serious charges that included murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault.
On September 30, 1999, he was sentenced to death for his crimes. The court found his actions were especially cruel and depraved. The trial affirmed that he inflicted a significant amount of suffering on his victim before her death.
