Bio

John Douglas White was born on May 20, 1957. He grew up in a tough environment in Battle Creek, Michigan. His childhood experiences shaped his future, including his relationships with friends and family. White was known to have a troubled demeanor from a young age.

As a teenager, he exhibited violent behavior. In 1981, when he was 22, he was involved in a serious incident where he stabbed a 17-year-old girl named Theresa Etherton multiple times. This brutal act led to his conviction for attempted murder. He was sentenced to five to ten years in prison but appealed his conviction. His conviction was reduced, and he was eventually released on probation after serving only two years.

After his release, White struggled to stay out of trouble. He had a family, with two children and another on the way. However, in the early 1990s, he was involved in an affair with a 26-year-old woman named Vicki Sue Wall. White was still married at the time. In July 1994, Wall disappeared under suspicious circumstances. Surveillance footage showed her getting into White's truck shortly before her last known sighting.

Despite the evidence, it took a long time before White was officially charged. He initially denied having anything to do with her disappearance but later admitted to having blackouts during which he feared he might have harmed her. Shortly after Wall’s body was found, White faced charges of involuntary manslaughter. He ultimately pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 8 to 15 years in prison. He was released in 2007 after serving nearly 13 years.

After his release, White became a pastor at a small church in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. He got engaged to a woman who had a daughter named Rebekah Gay. White was regularly involved in looking after her young son. However, his violent past loomed over him, and he struggled with his inner demons.

John White's life and actions before his second murder reflected a complex mix of childhood experiences, violence, and a search for redemption.

Murder Story

John Douglas White committed his first known murder in 1994. Vicki Sue Wall, his mistress, disappeared on July 11 of that year. Surveillance footage showed Wall getting into a pickup truck driven by White late at night. Following her disappearance, her body was discovered weeks later, hidden in a wooded area. The body was too decomposed for an autopsy to determine a cause of death, but it was believed that she had been murdered. White was arrested, but due to a lack of evidence, he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. He was sentenced to 8 to 15 years in prison and was released in 2007.

White's second murder occurred on October 31, 2012. Rebekah Jane Gay, the 24-year-old daughter of his fiancée, was found dead shortly after she went missing on Halloween. On that day, White entered her home, where he attacked her with a rubber mallet and strangled her with a zip tie. He later disposed of her body in a rural area and dressed her three-year-old son in a Halloween costume before taking him to his father.

White confessed to the police about the murder, admitting that he had fantasized about killing Gay for weeks and had watched pornography involving necrophilia prior to the crime. He was charged with first-degree murder and later pled guilty to second-degree murder as a habitual offender. John Douglas White was sentenced to 56 years and three months in prison in April 2013. Shortly after, he died by suicide in his prison cell on August 28, 2013.
