Bio

Joel Carl Smith was born in 1973. Little is known about his early life, but he grew up in London, England. He had a troubled background and became involved in drug dealing from a young age. Smith earned the nickname "Cocaine" or "Caine" due to his association with the drug trade.

By 2003, Smith's choices led him down a dark path. His dangerous lifestyle eventually culminated in a series of events that would change his life forever. He was arrested and charged for serious crimes that led to significant media attention and public outcry.

On August 4, 2006, Smith was convicted and sentenced for his actions, marking a tragic turn in his life and the lives of others involved. He was given a life sentence, with a minimum term of 40 years.

Murder Story

On September 13, 2003, Joel Carl Smith entered a bedsit in Kensal Green, London, where he shot and killed Bertram Byfield, a 41-year-old rival drug dealer. After shooting Mr. Byfield, who had been thought to be the father of seven-year-old Toni-Ann Byfield, he also shot the girl in the back. This was done to ensure that she could not identify him as her killer.

Smith believed he had committed the perfect crime. He left no DNA or forensic evidence at the scene, and there was no CCTV to capture the events. Neighbors heard four shots followed by silence, but there was no immediate action taken.

After the murders, Smith fled to Liverpool. He avoided capture for two years until he was arrested while serving a prison sentence for a different matter. Some of his former friends and acquaintances, disturbed by the murders, provided information to the police that led to his arrest.

Joel Smith was charged with and convicted of both murders. He received a life sentence on August 4, 2006, with a minimum of 40 years for the murder of Toni-Ann Byfield and 33 years for the murder of Bertram Byfield.
