Murder Story

On January 11, 1983, Jessie Derrell Williams murdered Karon Ann Pierce, an 18-year-old woman. The crime took place after Karon was at a bar with her boyfriend, where she was drinking and taking drugs. Witnesses reported that Karon got into fights and may have been raped by several men in the bar. After her boyfriend left, Karon left the bar with Thomas Evans, a cousin of Williams, to continue partying. They eventually met up with Williams and another man, Michael Norwood.

While at a secluded area near a river, Karon was sexually assaulted by Williams and Norwood. The situation escalated, and Karon attempted to leave. Williams tackled her and dragged her into a wooded area. Evidence later suggested that Karon was alive when she was mutilated. She was found ten days later by a hunter. Her throat had been slashed, she had been stabbed in the heart, and there was evidence of severe sexual mutilation.

Williams, along with Evans and Norwood, was initially arrested. However, Evans and Norwood later testified against Williams in exchange for reduced sentences. Williams maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings. He was sentenced to death for the murder.

On December 11, 2002, after nearly 20 years on death row, Jessie Derrell Williams was executed by lethal injection in Mississippi. He declined a final meal and chose not to make any final statements before his death. He was pronounced dead at 6:42 PM.
