Bio

Jeremy Strohmeyer was born on October 11, 1978, in Long Beach, California. He was raised by his adoptive parents after being placed in their care as an infant. His biological parents had serious issues; his father was in prison, and his mother had mental health problems, including chronic schizophrenia.

During his childhood, Strohmeyer was noted to be a difficult child. His adoptive parents reported that he had some behavioral issues. Despite these challenges, he managed to complete his education, graduating from high school in 1996.

Strohmeyer enjoyed playing video games and spending time with friends. However, as he grew older, he began to show troubling behavior. Reports indicated that he was consuming drugs and alcohol before he turned 18. His life took a dramatic turn when, at age 18, he became involved in an incident that would change his life forever.

In the early morning of May 25, 1997, Strohmeyer and a friend were at the Primadonna Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. Hours later, he would become known for his connection to a tragic crime. Ultimately, he was arrested just three days later after being identified from security footage. His early life, marked by difficulties and challenges, set the stage for the events that would follow.

Murder Story

In the early morning of May 25, 1997, 18-year-old Jeremy Strohmeyer was at the Primadonna Resort and Casino in Primm, Nevada. He was with his friend, David Cash Jr., and they had come to the casino from Long Beach, California. At around 4 a.m., Strohmeyer noticed 7-year-old Sherrice Iverson wandering the casino alone. Her father was gambling and drinking nearby, ignoring pleas from security to watch over her.

Strohmeyer followed Sherrice into a women's restroom. Inside, they engaged in playful activities, such as throwing wet paper wads at each other. As the situation escalated, David Cash entered the restroom and observed Strohmeyer forcibly taking Sherrice into a stall. He witnessed Strohmeyer covering her mouth and fondling her. Instead of intervening, Cash left the restroom.

Later, Strohmeyer confessed to Cash that he had molested and killed Sherrice. Three days after the crime, police arrested Strohmeyer at his home after seeing his image on casino security footage. He faced multiple charges, including first-degree murder and sex crimes against a minor. During police questioning, Strohmeyer admitted to strangling Iverson to prevent her from screaming and claimed he had twisted her neck before leaving her body in a sitting position on the toilet.

Strohmeyer's legal team attempted to suppress his confession, arguing he had not been given legal counsel. However, police stated that he had waived his right to an attorney. His attorney entered a plea bargain on his behalf hours before his trial was set to begin. On September 8, 1998, Strohmeyer pleaded guilty to charges of murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault. He received a sentence of four life terms without the possibility of parole on October 14, 1998.

Strohmeyer was initially sent to Ely State Prison and later transferred to Lovelock Correctional Center. He attempted to appeal his conviction several times, claiming he was coerced into his guilty plea. Each appeal was ultimately rejected.

This case led to significant changes in Nevada laws regarding the reporting of child abuse and increased security measures within casinos to protect children.
