murder story
In 1975, Jeffrey Paul Cutlip entered the apartment of Marlene Claire Carlson, who was 44 years old. He found her asleep in her bed. Cutlip demanded sex from her. When Carlson refused, he tried to smother her with a pillow. When that did not work, he strangled her with a telephone cord. After killing her, he sexually assaulted her body. Carlson was last seen alive on July 30, 1975, but her body was not found until August 7.
On April 4, 1977, Cutlip murdered 15-year-old Julie Marie Bennett. He met her at Johnson Creek Park. They went to a store and bought beer and cigarettes together. Later, he lured her to his cabin, where he forced her to the ground and raped her for nearly two hours. When Bennett threatened to call the police, Cutlip took her back to the park. He attempted to suffocate her and, when that failed, held her head underwater in the creek until she stopped breathing. He then dragged her body to the east side of the creek.
In 1982, Cutlip entered a woman's home, gagged her, and tied her up. He sexually assaulted her for six hours. He was later arrested, convicted of sodomy and first-degree burglary, and labeled a sex offender.
On July 21, 1993, the body of Nielene Loribell Doll, who was 33, was discovered by a jogger. Cutlip stated that Doll went home with him after they used methamphetamine together. He asked to tie her up for sex, but she refused. After a struggle, Cutlip strangled her to death and attempted to sexually abuse her body. He then placed her body in the trunk of her car and dumped it. He left her car in a Fred Meyer parking lot.
In July 2012, Cutlip called the police from Brownsville, Texas, and confessed to murdering four women. The police were able to confirm three of these murders. Cutlip was arrested and brought back to Oregon. In 2013, he pleaded guilty to two counts of murder and one count of aggravated murder for the deaths of Carlson, Bennett, and Doll. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, and he is currently incarcerated in Two Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla, Oregon.
