Bio

Jason Wayne Rose was born on January 10, 1968, in Oregon. As he transitioned into adulthood, Rose became involved in various activities. He lived in Lane County, Oregon, where he later became a central figure in a criminal case.

Murder Story

On May 30, 1988, Jason Wayne Rose murdered Melissa Ann Meyer, a 19-year-old woman, in Lane County, Oregon. After the murder, her body was discovered near a water-filtration plant in Springfield. Prosecutors stated that Rose, along with an accomplice named John Ray Jones, spent about an hour killing Meyer. They described the act as a ritualistic human sacrifice.

Following his arrest, Rose confessed to both robbing and murdering Meyer. He also performed a re-enactment of the crime for police investigators. This confession and re-enactment were later shown in court during his trial. On April 20, 1989, he was convicted of aggravated murder and first-degree robbery. The jury sentenced him to death.

However, his death sentence was later overturned by the Oregon Supreme Court due to an error in jury instructions during the penalty phase. To avoid receiving the death penalty again, Rose negotiated a plea deal and accepted a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. This agreement was made on July 31, 1992.

Throughout the legal proceedings, Rose attempted to challenge various aspects of his case, including his confession, claiming it had been unlawfully induced. However, the courts found that he had not properly exhausted his claims at the state level and ruled against him. As a result, he remains in prison, serving a life sentence without the chance for parole.
