May 20, 2008Jason Robert Weismiller was born in 1980. He was part of a family that included an identical twin brother named Darryl. The twins were adopted when they were toddlers after being apprehended by the state. Their adoptive parents were Robert Weismiller and his wife. Unfortunately, the couple divorced when the boys were twelve years old. After the divorce, Robert raised the twins by himself.
Growing up, Jason and Darryl lived together with their father. The family was not known to have any significant problems, and they maintained a typical household environment. They had moments of family bonding, such as Sunday dinners. Over time, Jason started a family of his own and had two young sons.
Both Jason and his brother struggled with alcoholism during their adult lives. This shared battle with addiction created some challenges for their relationship. Neighbors described the twins as generally normal brothers who interacted regularly. They were seen together often at the community center or at local parks.
Jason's life took a significant turn when a tragic incident occurred between him and Darryl. Jason had spent time with his family before returning home, where an argument broke out between the brothers. They had a complicated relationship, similar to many siblings, but it was evident they both cared for each other deeply despite their struggles.
Tragically, this argument would lead to a significant turning point in Jason's life. The events surrounding that night would change everything for him and his family.
On July 14, 2007, Jason Robert Weismiller stabbed his identical twin brother, Darryl Weismiller, during a drunken fight at their father's home in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. The incident took place in the early morning hours. Reports indicate that there was an argument between the brothers before the fatal event.
Jason called 911 at 1:32 a.m., claiming that his brother was not breathing. He stated, "He's drunk, he's drunk, I don't know," and hung up the call. When the dispatcher called back, Jason mentioned finding Darryl on the floor and denied there had been a fight. He attempted to perform CPR, while paramedics and police arrived at the scene.
Paramedics found Darryl unresponsive and pronounced him dead at 2:15 a.m. According to police, Jason was taken in for questioning afterward and was described as argumentative during the process. Witnesses testified that they had heard the twins arguing outside prior to the stabbing, and Jason's common-law wife reported that Darryl had been taunting him and threatening to get a weapon.
Both brothers struggled with severe alcoholism. The court heard that Darryl had been drinking heavily on the day of the incident. After grappling over a screwdriver, Jason stabbed Darryl in the upper back. Darryl's blood alcohol content at the time was reported to be four times the legal driving limit, and he died from massive blood loss after the screwdriver severed his aorta.
On July 31, 2007, Jason was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of his brother. He later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. On May 20, 2008, he was sentenced to 33 months in prison, taking into account time already served. After serving part of his sentence, he was also required to complete three years of probation.
