murder story

In the early hours of April 30, 2023, a brutal stabbing incident occurred outside a nightclub in Bodmin, Cornwall, in southwestern England. What began as an argument between two groups quickly escalated into a deadly confrontation involving knives and a machete. The violence took place on Castle Canyke Road near the Eclipse Nightclub, a popular venue in the area.

By the time emergency services arrived at the scene, four individuals had been fatally stabbed. Among them was 32-year-old Michael Riddiough-Allen, who suffered especially severe injuries. Reports indicated that one victim had been beheaded with a machete, though official sources later clarified that only one person was confirmed murdered in court: Michael Allen. Seven other people—both men and women—were also wounded in the attack. Their injuries ranged from minor to serious, with five released from the hospital within 24 hours and two remaining for surgery and recovery.

On May 2, 2023, Jake Hill was arrested and formally charged with six offenses: one count of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent under Section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act. Following his arrest, legal authorities urged the public to refrain from discussing the case in order to preserve the fairness of the trial process.

The Bodmin community responded with grief and solidarity. A tribute site was established at Bodmin RFC (Rugby Football Club), where flowers and messages were laid in memory of the victims. Bodmin Youth FC, a local football team, canceled all training sessions in the days following the attack to show respect for those affected.

Jake Hill’s trial took place at Truro Crown Court. In March 2024, he was convicted of the murder of Michael Riddiough-Allen and received a life sentence on April 12, 2024 with a minimum term of 28 years before he would be eligible for parole. The court found him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of not only killing Allen but also attempting to kill three others and grievously harming two more.
