1988Jackie Barron Wilson was born on February 12, 1967. He grew up in an environment that was marked by difficulties. There are indications that he faced significant hardships during his childhood. Reports suggest that he experienced both neglect and abuse from family members. In addition, Wilson witnessed violent events, including the murder of one of his caregivers. These experiences likely played a role in shaping his life and behaviors as he grew older.
Wilson's early life does not seem to have provided him with a stable foundation. By the time of his adolescence, he had already begun to exhibit troubling behavior. He had legal issues as a teenager, including arrests related to drug and alcohol use. His educational background shows that he completed about 12 years of schooling. After school, Wilson worked as a bricklayer.
Throughout his youth, Wilson's home life appeared chaotic. Reports describe a family structure where conflict was common, which possibly contributed to his later criminal behavior. His connections to his family and peers were influenced by the tumultuous environment he grew up in.
By the late 1980s, Wilson was living in Irving, Texas, near the Arlington apartment complex where a tragic event would later unfold. At the age of 21, he had already experienced a series of brushes with the law, which would eventually lead to a more serious criminal charge. Following a troubled youth, Jackie Barron Wilson would become involved in a crime that would change many lives and lead to his eventual execution.
Jackie Barron Wilson was convicted for the murder of Lottie Margaret Rhodes, a five-year-old girl, in Dallas County, Texas. The crime occurred on November 30, 1988. Early that morning, Maggie's mother discovered she was missing from her bed. The window above Maggie’s bed was broken from the outside, and there were signs of a struggle, including blood on the window ledge and torn curtains.
Hours later, Maggie's body was found on the side of a road in Grand Prairie, Texas. The medical examiner determined that she had died from a combination of suffocation and being run over by a car. It was also established that she had been sexually assaulted while alive. Investigators found key evidence linking Jackie Wilson to the crime. His fingerprints were found on the broken window at the victim's apartment, and hair that matched Maggie's was discovered in the car Wilson was driving that night.
Wilson was quickly identified due to multiple witnesses who saw him driving a red Mercury Cougar near the area around the time of the crime. The tread marks on the tires of the car matched those found on the victim’s body. Wilson was arrested on December 7, 1988, and, following two trials, he was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death.
After numerous appeals and denials for new trials or DNA testing, Wilson's execution was set for May 4, 2006. He was executed by lethal injection, and his last meal request included a cheeseburger, onion rings, beef enchilada, and lemon pie. His final words expressed love for his family and maintained his claim of innocence. Jackie Barron Wilson was pronounced dead on May 4, 2006.
