murder story
On May 2, 1983, Jack Harold Jones Jr. murdered Regina Harrison, a 20-year-old college student. She had gone for a bike ride in Hollywood, Florida, and never returned home. Her body was discovered later in the woods, and she had been strangled. Witnesses reported seeing a man with a black bike with her on the night she disappeared.
Jones murdered Lorraine "Lori" Anne Barrett on June 1, 1991. Barrett was a tourist from Pennsylvania who was last seen at a bar. Her body was found in her motel room. She had been raped and strangled. Police created a suspect sketch based on witnesses’ descriptions of a heavily tattooed man. However, this case went cold for years.
On June 6, 1995, in Bald Knob, Arkansas, Jones attacked Mary Phillips and her 11-year-old daughter, Lacey. He broke into Mary’s office, where he raped and killed her. He severely beat Lacey and tied her to a chair in the bathroom before leaving. When officers arrived, they initially believed Lacey was dead but soon realized she was alive. Lacey described her attacker, and police quickly linked the description to Jones, who was already known to them. He was arrested and confessed to the crime.
After his conviction, Jones was sentenced to death for Mary’s murder. While on death row, his DNA matched evidence from the Lori Barrett case. He was tried for that murder as well and received a life sentence.
On April 24, 2017, Jones was executed in Arkansas. Before his execution, he wrote a letter confessing to the murder of Regina Harrison. After his death, investigators linked him to her case, clearing Ronald Stewart, who had been wrongfully convicted. Following this revelation, further investigations aimed to determine if Jones had other victims.
