Igor Alexandrovich Mirenkov was born on May 28, 1969, in the city of Svietlahorsk, which was part of the Byelorussian SSR, now known as Belarus. He spent his early life in this city. After finishing school, he was called to serve in the Northern Fleet of the Soviet military. During his time there, it was reported that he showed homosexual tendencies and sometimes solicited his fellow sailors. An investigator named Oleg Litoshko later suggested that Igor may have experienced trauma during this period, which could have affected his mental state.
After completing his service, Mirenkov returned to Svietlahorsk. He found a job and bought a motorcycle of the JAWA brand, which was a popular choice in the region. He seemed to lead a normal life after his return. People around him described him as very inconspicuous, meaning that he did not attract much attention. Litoshko noted that if Igor was in a crowd, he could go unnoticed. However, he was able to engage in conversations on various topics, showing he had some social skills.
murder story
Igor Alexandrovich Mirenkov committed a series of murders between 1990 and 1993. His first known murder occurred on 2 June 1990, when he attacked a 13-year-old boy who was walking in the woods. He raped and killed the boy using a knife. On 16 April 1991, Mirenkov murdered a 10-year-old boy in a similar manner. At the time, authorities did not connect these two cases.
In 1992, Mirenkov was sentenced to three years of penal labor for robbery. He did not commit any murders during this time. However, he was known to be a model prisoner and often received three-day leaves. During one of these leaves, on 20 March 1993, Mirenkov killed a third victim. He followed this with a fourth murder on 30 March.
The city of Svietlahorsk became anxious as more children disappeared. Rumors began to spread about a group called the “White Brotherhood,” with people fearing that children were being kidnapped by Romani people or criminal gangs. During the summer of 1993, Mirenkov murdered two more boys. The bodies of these victims were later discovered in a nearby forest in the autumn.
On 27 April 1994, Mirenkov was arrested for stealing petrol and committing insurance fraud. While he was in custody, he was questioned about the disappearances and murders of the children. He ultimately confessed to six murders. The case received significant attention and was classified by authorities. Mirenkov was placed in solitary confinement as the investigation continued for more than a year.
Eventually, the criminal case was sent to the Gomel Regional Court. Mirenkov was found guilty and sentenced to death. His sentence was carried out on 19 June 1996 in the SIZO No. 1 Detention Unit located in Minsk.
