Bio

Hubert Glenn Sexton was born on June 1, 1971, in Tennessee. He grew up in a challenging home environment that affected his early life. His parents divorced when he was six years old. This separation caused a lot of instability in his life. He moved around frequently, living with various family members and friends. Throughout his childhood, he lived with six to eight different families before he turned eighteen.

Sexton had two older sisters and one younger brother. He faced difficulties in his family life. His father had health problems, and this impacted his ability to provide a stable home. His mother also left the family when he was young. This early lack of stability and care had significant effects on his development and relationships with others.

As a child, Sexton did not stay in one place long enough to develop friendships. This made it hard for him to learn how to relate to other people. Despite these challenges, he was described as average in intelligence at school. However, as he began to face more instability, his academic performance began to struggle.

As a young adult, Sexton's life continued to be complicated. He had various jobs and often had trouble maintaining stable relationships. He became a stepfather and had children, but his relationships with family members remained strained. The issues from his childhood seemed to follow him into adulthood, affecting his ability to form healthy connections with others.

Murder Story

In the late evening of May 20, 2000, Hubert Glenn Sexton shot and killed Stanley Goodman and Terry Sue Goodman in their home located in Scott County, Tennessee. The couple's 13-year-old daughter discovered their bodies lying in bed the next morning. This tragic event followed allegations made by B.G., a minor stepdaughter of Sexton, that he had sexually abused her. Stanley Goodman was B.G.'s biological father, which created a significant motive for the murders.

Sexton denied the claims of abuse and believed that Stanley Goodman was behind the accusations. During the trial, evidence revealed that Sexton had obtained a .22 caliber rifle just before the murders. Witnesses testified that Sexton had made comments about taking care of the situation related to Stanley Goodman just hours before the shooting took place.

On the morning after the murders, Sexton was seen by a friend, where he confessed that he had killed the Goodmans. His demeanor was described as drunk or agitated, and he spoke about how he had planned the crime. The police discovered the murder weapon's shell casings in the Goodmans' bedroom, and they also learned that Sexton made efforts to dispose of or alter evidence related to the crime.

Sexton was arrested five days later, on May 25, 2000. The court proceedings led to a jury finding him guilty of first-degree murder for both Stanley and Terry Goodman. On June 30, 2001, he was sentenced to death. Throughout the trial, the court reviewed various appeals and motions, addressing claims regarding the admission of certain evidence, jury selection, and other legal challenges, but ultimately upheld the convictions and death sentences.
