Murder Story

On September 7, 1999, Hiroshi Zoda committed a violent attack in the Ikebukuro area of Tokyo, Japan. At around 11:40 a.m., he used a knife and a hammer to assault multiple people on a busy shopping street. The area was filled with shoppers and passersby when he began his rampage.

Hiroshi Zoda targeted his victims at random. During the incident, he killed two women: Kazuko Sumiyoshi, who was 66 years old, and Mami Takahashi, who was 29. He stabbed Kazuko in the heart, which caused her to die instantly. Mami was stabbed in the back and later died from her injuries.

In addition to the two fatalities, Zoda wounded six other people. One of the injured was a 71-year-old man named Tadashi Sumiyoshi, who also suffered serious injuries. Other victims included five individuals aged between 15 and 52, who sustained minor injuries.

The attack quickly led to panic among the crowds. People ran for cover, seeking safety from the violence. Zoda was reported to have struck his first victim on the back of the head with the hammer. He continued his assault, stabbing random people as he moved down the street.

Zoda's violent actions drew attention, and he was quickly subdued by a group of passersby. They managed to restrain him and handed him over to the police. At the time of his arrest, Zoda still possessed the hammer and had a knife with a broken tip nearby.
