Murder Story

On March 29, 1978, Hernando Williams kidnapped Linda Goldstone from a parking lot in Chicago, Illinois. He approached her while armed with a gun. After robbing her, he forced her to partially undress and get into the front seat of his car. Williams held Goldstone captive for more than two days, during which he sexually assaulted her multiple times.

While out on bail for another kidnapping and rape charge, Williams drove with Goldstone in the trunk of his car. He even attended a court hearing during this time with her still locked away in the trunk. After the hearing, he was seen washing his car at his parent's home, where police later found him cleaning the trunk.

Early in the morning on April 1, 1978, Williams released Goldstone, giving her bus fare and instructing her to go home. Instead, she sought help at a nearby house. A firefighter answered the door and called the police. After seeing Goldstone speaking to the firefighter, Williams returned and led her into an alley, where he shot her multiple times.

Later that day, police arrested Williams at his parents' home, where he was washing the trunk of his car. A psychiatrist diagnosed him with a mental disorder, but he pled guilty to charges including aggravated kidnapping, robbery, rape, and murder. In 1980, a jury sentenced him to death, and he was executed by lethal injection in Illinois on March 25, 1995.
