Bio

Gordon Park was born on January 25, 1944, in England. He grew up in a small community near Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. He became a primary school teacher in the same area.

In his personal life, Gordon married Carol Ann Park, who was also a teacher. They had three children together. Carol was adopted, and it is said that she had expressed some feelings of depression about her biological parents. Their relationship had its challenges, including turbulence and arguments.

Gordon and Carol lived in Leece, where they seemed to lead a normal family life. They were both involved in education, and their jobs as teachers connected them to their community. Despite this connection, it appears that there were underlying issues between them, which led to Carol leaving home on two occasions prior to her disappearance.

On July 17, 1976, Carol vanished without a trace, and the family was set to go on a day trip to Blackpool. Carol claimed to be unwell, so she stayed home. This would be the last time her family saw her alive. Gordon reported her missing after a delay, explaining that he thought she had left him for another man, which added complexity to the situation.

After many years, in 1997, Carol's body was found in Coniston Water, but Gordon had already faced legal troubles earlier regarding her disappearance. He was arrested on suspicion of murder after her body was discovered, but the case was dropped due to lack of evidence at that time. Gordon returned to a quiet life, but in 2004, he was arrested again based on new evidence, leading to a trial that would change everything for him.

Murder Story

On July 17, 1976, Carol Park went missing. She was the first wife of Gordon Park. Six weeks later, when Carol did not return for work, her husband reported her missing. He claimed she left him for another man.

In 1997, Carol's body was discovered at the bottom of Coniston Water. She had been bludgeoned to death, and investigators believed the murder weapon was an ice axe. Evidence showed her body was tied up and weighed down with rocks. The body was found on an underwater ledge, which meant it could be discovered.

Gordon Park was arrested on suspicion of murder in 1997 but was released due to lack of evidence. He was arrested again on January 13, 2004, after new leads emerged. During his trial in 2005, circumstantial evidence was presented, including the method of tying the body and similarities in rocks found near the lake.

The prosecution alleged that Gordon had killed Carol, then stored her body before dumping it into the lake. They argued he used considerable force during the attack, causing severe injuries to her skull. The evidence presented was mainly circumstantial.

Gordon Park was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison, required to serve a minimum of 15 years. He appealed the conviction, claiming new evidence would prove his innocence, but his appeals were rejected. On January 25, 2010, he was found hanged in his prison cell on his birthday.
