murder story

On August 6, 1985, Glenn Lee Benner II abducted 26-year-old Cynthia Sedgwick in the woods near the Blossom Music Center in Summit County. They were both at a concert when he attacked her. Benner raped Sedgwick and then choked her to death.

A few months later, on January 2, 1986, he kidnapped 21-year-old Trina Bowser in Akron. Like Sedgwick, Bowser was also raped and killed. In 2003, DNA testing confirmed that Benner was the source of the semen found in Bowser's assault.

Benner was arrested on January 10, 1986 and faced trial. On May 14, 1986, he was convicted of kidnapping, rape, and aggravated murder. He was also convicted for the attempted murders and rapes of two other women during separate incidents.

After spending nearly 20 years on death row, Benner was executed by lethal injection on February 7, 2006. His last meal included four bacon cheeseburgers, a baked potato, french fries, onion rings, macaroni and cheese, a salad, blueberry pie with ice cream, iced tea, and a Coke.

Before his execution, Benner expressed remorse. He said, “I'm sorry. Trina and Cynthia were beautiful girls who didn't deserve what I did to them.”
