March 8, 1997Fredric W. Tokars was born and raised in the United States. He became a lawyer and had a career that included serving as a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney. Over the years, he worked on various legal cases and became known in Atlanta, Georgia.
Tokars developed a family and was married to Sara Lambrusko. They had two sons, Ricky and Mikey. Their marriage started off well, but over time, it became troubled. Sara grew suspicious of Fredric’s behavior. She hired a private investigator to follow him, as she believed he was unfaithful. Sara also discovered that her husband had opened foreign bank accounts.
With growing concerns about Fredric's activities, Sara began to collect evidence. She made copies of documents that might prove useful if she had to confront him or seek a divorce. She shared these concerns and copies with her sister, feeling that she needed to protect herself and their children.
As Sara's fears increased, she wanted to ensure safety for herself and her children. Fredric’s shady dealings and suspected criminal activities created a tense atmosphere at home. The couple had been married for several years, but Sara felt more and more that she was living in a dangerous situation.
Fredric Tokars' life took a drastic turn in late 1992 when local authorities began investigating his activities related to money laundering and other crimes. The investigation shed light on a complex web of legal and illegal dealings in which he was involved. This included connections with various criminal enterprises that he was allegedly part of for many years.
On November 29, 1992, Sara Tokars was murdered in front of her two young children in Marietta, Georgia. Sara and her sons, Ricky and Mikey, were returning home from a Thanksgiving trip to Florida when they encountered an armed intruder. The intruder forced them into their van and soon after shot Sara in the back of the head with a sawed-off shotgun. Ricky managed to turn off the ignition and escape with his brother to find help.
Initially, the police believed it was a robbery gone wrong. However, as they investigated, they discovered a more complicated situation. They identified Eddie Lawrence, a real estate developer, who had connections to Fredric Tokars, Sara's husband. The police soon arrested Lawrence. They learned from Lawrence's secretary that he had recently talked to his brother, Curtis Rower, about getting a gun and shooting someone.
Rower was later arrested and charged with Sara's murder. He claimed Lawrence had offered him $5,000 to kill a "white lady" standing in the way of making money. Rower also stated that Lawrence had driven him to the Tokars' home. After forcing Sara back into her vehicle, he shot her shortly after she had arrived back.
On December 14, 1992, Lawrence was arrested on unrelated bad-check charges. During the investigation, he expressed that he had pressure from Tokars to proceed with the murder. It was revealed that Tokars had taken out a significant life insurance policy on Sara prior to her death.
In December 1992, authorities charged Lawrence and Rower with murder. By Christmas Eve, the police named Tokars a suspect in his wife's homicide. He was also found to be under investigation for involvement in money laundering and drug trafficking activities.
In March 1997, Fredric Tokars was convicted of murdering his wife, Sara. He received a life sentence. The trial highlighted many underlying issues, including his connections to illegal activities. His behavior, including an attempted suicide shortly after his wife's murder, showed the strain of the case on him. He expressed sorrow for the pain caused by his lifestyle and denied any wrongdoing in Sara's murder.
