Bio

Frederick Ramone Whatley was born in 1968. Information about his early life is limited and not widely available. He was raised in Georgia and spent much of his early life there.

As a young person, Whatley was reported to have faced challenges that might have influenced his later life choices. He had interactions with the law at a young age. By the time he was a teenager, he had already entered the juvenile justice system, which often indicates a troubled upbringing. These early experiences may have fostered a pattern of behavior that continued into his adulthood.

Eventually, Whatley became involved in criminal activities. At some point in his late teens, he was arrested for robbery. He served time in a halfway house in Washington, D.C. While in this facility, he was being rehabilitated for his past behavior. However, he later escaped from this halfway house, which led him to return to Georgia.

His life in Georgia took a serious turn on January 26, 1995, when he committed crimes that would change the course of his life permanently. At that time, he was just 27 years old. Following this event, he was arrested on the same day and would face serious legal consequences for his actions.

Whatley’s journey shows a complex background marked by early difficulties and choices that led to a tragic path.

Murder Story

Frederick R. Whatley committed a murder on January 26, 1995, in Spalding County, Georgia. The victim was Ed Allen, the owner of Roy's Bait Shop. Whatley entered the store around 8:45 p.m., armed with a .32 caliber silver revolver. He forced an employee named Tommy Bunn to lie face-down on the floor. Whatley then demanded that Allen hand over the money from the cash register. Allen complied and placed the cash in a paper sack.

Once he received the bag with the money, Whatley moved to the front of the counter and shot Allen twice. One bullet struck Allen in the chest, causing serious injuries. The second shot was aimed at Bunn, but it missed. After shooting, Whatley left the store and encountered another person, Ray Coursey, outside. Whatley threatened Coursey, ordered him into his car, and made him drive away.

Despite his injuries, Allen was able to retrieve a hidden handgun and shot at Whatley, who returned fire. After the exchange, Allen collapsed and later died from his injuries. Whatley exited Coursey's car, dropping the bag of stolen money as he fled the scene.

Whatley was arrested on the same day at a house where he was staying. The police found him with a bullet wound in his leg. They also discovered the murder weapon and other incriminating evidence in the house. Whatley was charged with several crimes, including malice murder and armed robbery. On January 22, 1997, he was sentenced to death for his actions.
