Francisco García Escalero was born on May 24, 1948, in Madrid, Spain. He had a difficult early life, marked by health problems and a strange demeanor. His education was poor and inadequate, which affected his growth and development. From a young age, he was fascinated with death. He often enjoyed walking in cemeteries, a behavior that set him apart from other children.
Escalero had a troubled relationship with his father. His father did not show love and instead subjected him to frequent beatings. These abusive experiences likely had a lasting impact on him. At the age of 16, he was sent to a psychiatric hospital, where he began to deal with his mental health issues. During this time, he also began to engage in theft.
In 1973, Escalero faced legal trouble again when he stole a motorbike. He was then placed in a reformatory and was released in 1975. Soon after his release, he committed his first serious crime, which involved the rape of a girl along with his friends. This act was particularly cruel as it occurred in front of her boyfriend. He was arrested for this crime and received a 12-year prison sentence.
After serving his time, Escalero was released in 1984. He struggled to find work and became a street beggar. His life took a downward turn as he developed a habit of drinking a mixture of alcohol and drugs. Escalero's behavior often became violent and aggressive. He was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which caused him to experience hallucinations. These hallucinations reportedly prompted him to commit violent acts.
murder story
Francisco García Escalero committed his first known murder in August 1987. His victim was Paula Martínez, a sex worker. After killing her, he decapitated and burned her body.
In March 1988, Escalero killed a beggar named Juan. He stabbed Juan and then crushed his head with a stone. Months later, another beggar was found dead and had been seriously burned.
Escalero continued his violent actions and is believed to have killed many more people. He practiced necrophilia and cannibalism, often stealing bodies from cemeteries. In March 1989, he killed a beggar named Ángel. Ángel was found decapitated and lacking his fingertips.
By May 1989, another victim, a beggar named Julio, was discovered stabbed to death, missing his penis, and burned.
In 1994, Escalero escaped from a psychiatric hospital with a friend named Víctor Luis Criado. After two days, police found Criado dead with his skull crushed and burned. During the investigation, Escalero attempted suicide but ended up fracturing his leg. While at the hospital, he confessed to the murders and asked to be arrested.
Francisco García Escalero was arrested in April 1994. His trial took place in February 1995, and he was declared insane. He was confined to a psychiatric hospital for his severe mental disorder caused by alcoholism and schizophrenia.
