1999Francis Ng'ang'a was born in 1968 in Kenya. He became a matatu driver after finishing his education. Matatus are shared minivans or buses that are common in Kenya. Driving a matatu was a way to earn a living, but it also came with pressures.
Francis was married to Rhoda Gathoni. They had three daughters: Carol Nasirian, Wairimu, and Naisenya. His marriage faced difficulties, and he and Rhoda eventually separated. Rhoda had custody of their daughters, which caused Francis to feel unhappy and frustrated.
On November 20, 1999, Francis picked up his daughters from their mother's house in Kayole, Nairobi. During his visit, he attempted to convince Rhoda to return home. However, she refused, which led to some conflict. Rhoda's father intervened to protect her from Francis.
After taking the children home, Francis spoke with his mother. He told her he had brought the girls back and expressed that he no longer wanted anything to do with his wife. He did not appear to be in a good mood. Later that evening, Francis declined his mother’s invitation for dinner with the girls.
On November 21, 1999, Francis Ng'ang'a took his three daughters, Carol Nasirian, Wairimu, and Naisenya, to his home in Kayole, Nairobi. Earlier that day, he had picked them up from their mother’s custody. Later that night, he gave each of his daughters a drink that contained a poison called Cooper Triatix. After they drank it, all three girls quickly died.
After their deaths, he placed their bodies in the sitting room. He dressed them in neat tunics and arranged them on a sofa in order of their ages. Once he finished this, he covered them with a blanket. Afterward, Francis committed suicide by hanging himself from the roof of the house using a black cable.
The bodies of the girls and Francis were discovered the following morning, around 9 AM, by relatives who were concerned about their absence at a family breakfast.
