Bio

Floyd Allen Medlock was born on October 9, 1970. In February 1990, Medlock was living at the Woodoaks Apartments in Yukon, Oklahoma. He had lived there for about two weeks. Katherine Ann Busch and her mother lived in the same apartment complex, and Katherine had previously lived in the apartment where Medlock was staying.

After his arrest, Medlock’s mental health became an issue in court. He claimed he had memory lapses, heard voices, and described the crime as dream-like. His defense later presented evidence that he may have had a split personality. However, the court found him competent, and his guilty plea was accepted.

Medlock first pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but later changed his plea to guilty. He admitted in court that he stabbed Katherine Ann Busch on February 19, 1990, and that he intended to kill her.

Murder Story

On February 19, 1990, seven-year-old Katherine Ann “Kathy” Busch was riding her bicycle around the Woodoaks Apartments in Yukon, Oklahoma, where she lived with her mother. That evening, she went missing.

Katherine entered the apartment of Floyd Allen Medlock, who had recently moved into a unit where she had once lived. She told him she was hungry, and Medlock gave her chips while preparing macaroni and cheese.

According to Medlock’s confession, he suddenly felt a “weird feeling” and attacked Katherine. He choked her, took her to the bathroom, and stabbed her in the back of the neck. The medical examiner later determined that the stab wound caused her death.

After the murder, Medlock wrapped Katherine’s body in a blanket, placed it in a box, and left it in a dumpster behind a nearby shopping center. Police found her body in the early morning hours of February 20, 1990.

Later that morning, Medlock called 911 from a public phone and confessed. He gave police his location and description, and officers arrested him shortly afterward.

Medlock was charged with first-degree murder in Canadian County, Oklahoma. On February 4, 1991, he pleaded guilty and admitted that he intentionally stabbed Katherine.

A sentencing hearing was held in March 1991. The court found aggravating circumstances and sentenced Medlock to death. His appeals were later denied.

Medlock did not seek clemency or file last-minute appeals. He was executed by lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary on January 16, 2001, and was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m.
