On that day, he attended a friend's barbecue where he consumed a large amount of alcohol. His behavior at the party upset many, leading to arguments with others. Eventually, the host of the party asked him to leave. Feeling angry and rejected, Felix went home.

Once home, he took a Smith & Wesson pistol and confronted his parents. He shot and killed his father and wounded his mother. Afterward, he returned to the barbecue party, still armed. Without warning, Felix entered the gathering and began shooting at the guests. His first target was the host who had kicked him out earlier. He then shot others at the party, resulting in multiple casualties.
