murder story

On February 15, 2003, 12-year-olds Evan Savoie and Jake Eakin invited their 13-year-old friend, Craig Sorger, to play at Oasis Park in Ephrata, Washington. After some time, Evan asked Craig to feel the ground and count to ten. As Craig complied, Evan dropped a large rock on his neck, knocking him down, and then proceeded to stab him multiple times with a knife. Jake joined in by beating Craig with a tree branch.

When Craig didn't return home, his mother became concerned and initiated a search. His body was discovered later that evening in the park. Both Evan and Jake were arrested three days later.

Evan was initially convicted of first-degree murder in 2006 and sentenced to 26 years in prison. However, his conviction was overturned in 2011 due to a violation of his right to a public trial. In 2014, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. He was released from prison in February 2023.
