Bio

Eugene Robert Tucker was born on July 5, 1981. He grew up in a quiet neighborhood in Arizona. Details about his family and childhood are limited. There is not much public information about his early life, but it is known that Eugene had a challenging upbringing.

As he grew older, Eugene began to form relationships with people around him. He started dating AnnMarie Merchant. Their relationship had ups and downs, like many young couples. However, it eventually faced significant issues.

On the evening of July 14, 1999, AnnMarie did not want to see Eugene. He attempted to see her, but she rejected his efforts. This would lead to tragic events the following morning.

Eugene visited AnnMarie’s apartment the next day, where she lived with her brother, Roscoe Merchant, his girlfriend, Cindy Richards, and Cindy's infant son. This visit would change the lives of many individuals forever.

Murder Story

On July 15, 1999, Eugene Robert Tucker went to AnnMarie Merchant's apartment in Maricopa County, Arizona. The night before, AnnMarie had rejected Tucker's attempts to connect with her. The apartment was shared with her brother, Roscoe Merchant, his girlfriend, Cindy Richards, and Cindy's baby. At around this time, Roscoe and Cindy were asleep in their bedroom.

Tucker entered the apartment while they were sleeping. He shot both Roscoe and Cindy in the head, killing them. After that, he moved to AnnMarie’s room. A violent struggle took place between them. During this confrontation, Tucker caused multiple blunt force injuries to AnnMarie's head. He also sexually assaulted her at this time.

At one point, Tucker restrained AnnMarie by using handcuffs, duct tape, and a telephone cord. He bound her mouth and face with the duct tape. Finally, he shot AnnMarie under her jaw and behind her left ear, which resulted in her death.

Tucker was charged and later sentenced to death for his crimes on March 9, 2001. The trial judge, Hon. Michael D. Jones, presided over the case. The prosecution was led by Patricia Hicks-Stevens, while Tucker was defended by Gene Stratford and Greg Clark. The trial began on August 21, 2000, and a verdict was reached by September 15, 2000.
