1980Doyle James Williams was born on October 25, 1947. He grew up in Missouri and had a troubled childhood. His early life included exposure to crime, which likely shaped his path later on. As a teenager, he began to get into trouble with the law.
In 1967, at the age of 20, Williams was arrested in Baltimore, Maryland, for stealing a motor vehicle. He pled guilty and was sentenced to two and a half years of probation. This marked the beginning of his criminal record, which would grow over the years.
Three years later, in 1970, he was in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he again pled guilty to a similar charge of interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle. He received a suspended sentence and was placed on probation to run consecutively with the previous charge.
As the years passed, Williams continued to get into trouble. By 1976, he had pled guilty to eleven counts of interstate transportation and concealment of stolen motor vehicles. He served time in prison for these offenses but was paroled in November 1978. However, his parole was revoked in October 1980.
During the early 1980s, Williams lived in Auxvasse, Missouri. His life included interactions with other individuals involved in criminal activities. He became involved in a burglary case in April 1980, where he and an accomplice broke into a doctor's office and stole prescription pads. This event set off a chain of circumstances that would change his life forever.
As early as 1980, Williams exhibited a belief that he could manipulate his legal troubles. He had been trying to pass forged prescriptions when he was caught and arrested. This trial would lead to the tragic events that followed.
Doyle Williams spent time leading a life that veered into deeper criminal activity. He would eventually face serious charges that stemmed from his early choices and criminal lifestyle. His actions would have lasting consequences that extended beyond himself and impacted many others.
On October 6, 1980, Doyle Williams committed the murder of Dr. A.H. Domann in Marion County, Missouri. Williams, along with an accomplice named John Morgan, had earlier burglarized Dr. Domann's medical office. This burglary involved stealing blank prescription pads, which led to concerns regarding potential misuse. When Williams faced charges related to forged prescriptions linked to these pads, he confided in Morgan that the only way to avoid conviction was if Dr. Domann did not testify against him.
On the evening of October 6, Williams shot Dr. Domann with a .45 caliber pistol. The following day, he disclosed to Morgan that he had killed the doctor and disposed of the body in a clay pit in Callaway County. A few days later, on October 8, Williams suggested to Morgan that they should also kill Kerry Brummett, Morgan’s roommate, who had knowledge of their activities and had testified against Morgan in a related case.
On October 9, Williams and Morgan, with the help of another person named Betty Coleman, lured Brummett to a remote area. Once there, they assaulted him, binding his hands with handcuffs. They then forced him towards the nearby Missouri River, where they continued to attack him. Brummett, in an effort to escape, ran into the river and ultimately drowned while still cuffed.
Authorities later recovered Brummett’s body from a sandbar about a week after the incident. The investigation revealed evidence linking Williams and Morgan to both murders, leading to their arrests and subsequent trials. Williams was eventually convicted of both murders and sentenced to death. He was executed by lethal injection in Missouri on April 10, 1996.
