Bio

Douglas Christopher Thomas was born on May 29, 1973, to Margaret Marshall Thomas and Robert Christopher Thomas. His father saw him briefly at the hospital when he was born but did not stay in his life after that. When Douglas was two years old, his mother decided to give him up for adoption to his maternal grandparents. He was raised by them in Middlesex County, Virginia.

For the first 12 years of his life, Douglas lived happily with his grandparents. However, in 1985, his life changed drastically. His uncle, who he was very close to, died in a work accident. Soon after, both of his grandparents passed away within a few months of each other. This left Douglas feeling abandoned and alone. He was moved to live with his mother in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Their relationship was not strong, and she did not offer the support he needed.

Douglas struggled to adjust to his new environment. He began to act out in school. His grades declined, and he started to use drugs. By the age of 16, he attempted to take his own life and was hospitalized to receive treatment for depression. He was diagnosed with unresolved grief due to the losses he had faced in his young life.

In early 1990, Douglas moved back to Middlesex County to live with his aunt and uncle, hoping to recreate the stability he had before. Unfortunately, that did not work out well. There were conflicts in the household, and his uncle often threatened to send him back to his mother if he misbehaved. This created a lot of fear and pressure for Douglas.

During the summer of 1990, he met Jessica Wiseman, who was 14 years old. They quickly developed a deep connection, and Douglas relied on her affection for comfort during his troubled time. However, Jessica's parents did not approve of their relationship and began to threaten Douglas, saying he should stay away from their daughter.

Despite these difficulties, Douglas and Jessica's bond grew stronger. Jessica became controlling, and their intense relationship led them to make dangerous choices. Their parents' disapproval pushed them to hatch a plan that would change both their lives forever.

Murder Story

On November 10, 1990, Douglas Christopher Thomas, then 17 years old, committed a double murder in Middlesex County, Virginia. He fatally shot Kathy and James Baxter Wiseman, who were the parents of his girlfriend, Jessica Wiseman. Their relationship was serious, but Jessica's parents disapproved and wanted her to end it. This disagreement led to tension between the couple and her parents.

On the night of the murder, Thomas confessed to having smoked marijuana and carried a shotgun to the Wiseman home. Jessica helped him enter through a window and they arranged drugs on the floor to create the appearance of a robbery. Thomas then went down the hall to the Wiseman's bedroom and fired at the couple as they slept. He shot Mr. Wiseman first, killing him immediately. Mrs. Wiseman survived the first shot, but was fatally shot again after Jessica urged Thomas to do so.

After the crime, Thomas fled back to his home. Jessica ran to Thomas' house and told his aunt that her parents had been shot. Police were notified and discovered the bodies soon after. Later that same day, Thomas confessed to shooting Kathy and James Wiseman during police questioning. He was arrested on the same day.

Douglas Christopher Thomas was tried as an adult. He was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to death for the murder of Kathy Wiseman, while receiving a 65-year sentence for the murder of James Wiseman. Jessica Wiseman, being only 14 at the time, was tried as a juvenile and committed to a youth correctional facility until she turned 21.

Thomas spent nearly nine years on death row. In January 2000, he was executed by lethal injection. At that time, he expressed feelings of unfairness, noting that Jessica had served only seven years for the same crime and was now free. He maintained that his actions were wrong but questioned the severity of his punishment compared to that of Jessica.
