Doug Clark was born on March 10, 1948, in Pennsylvania. His father was a naval intelligence officer, so the family moved around a lot. This meant Doug lived in many different places around the world during his childhood.
Doug attended an international school in Geneva, Switzerland, and graduated in 1967. After finishing high school, he moved back to the United States. He tried out different jobs but had trouble sticking with any of them. This made his life quite unstable.
In 1967, Doug joined the U.S. Air Force. After serving for a while, he left the military and moved to Los Angeles. There, he found work as a mechanic and a steam plant operator. However, Doug's life took a dark turn, and he started committing serious crimes.
murder story
Doug Clark, also known as the Sunset Strip Killer, began his crimes in 1980. He met Carol Bundy at a bar, and they quickly formed a deadly partnership. Together, they targeted young women, often picking up hitchhikers or sex workers in Los Angeles. Clark's first known victims were two women whose remains were found in Los Angeles County in January 1980.
In June 1980, Clark murdered 17-year-old Marnette Comer. Shortly after, he killed step-sisters Gina Narano and Cindy Chandler, shooting them both in the head. Clark continued his killing spree by murdering Karen Jones and Exxie Wilson, a sex worker whose head he kept as a trophy. Clark and Bundy took photos of some of their victims and engaged in gruesome acts with the bodies.
The killing spree came to an end when Bundy, overwhelmed by guilt and fear, confessed to a coworker and then to the police. Both were arrested on August 11, 1980. During the investigation, police found the murder weapons at Clark's workplace, linking him directly to the crimes.
At his trial, Clark tried to place all the blame on Bundy, claiming she was the mastermind. However, the jury didn't believe him. In 1983, he was found guilty and sentenced to death. Bundy, in exchange for her testimony against Clark, received a life sentence instead. Clark remained on death row until he died of natural causes in 2023.
