Bio

Dorancel Vargas Gomez was born on May 14, 1957, in Venezuela. He grew up in a peasant family living near the border with Colombia. His family had connections to a guerrilla group known as the Venezuelan Liberation Forces. Due to his strange behavior, family members believed he was possessed by evil spirits.

At the age of fifteen, Dorancel moved to San Cristóbal, one of the major cities in Venezuela. It was during this time that he began to use drugs and drink heavily. He became homeless and started living under an expressway bridge called Autopista Libertador. This area was dark at night and often attracted drunkards, drug users, and beggars looking for a place to sleep.

As he spent more time under the bridge, reports began to emerge from locals about missing persons. Families would complain to the police after their loved ones disappeared. The police started an investigation into the area around the bridge.

In the 1990s, authorities focused on this area because several people had gone missing. Many locals believed that Dorancel might have been involved. He was known to socialize with those who frequented the bar nearby, leading to suspicions about his actions.

Dorancel's life took a troubling turn, which caused many to question his mental state. He was diagnosed as a paranoid psychopath by psychiatrists. Despite this diagnosis, there were debates over whether he should be considered a criminal or a mentally ill person, which would play a role in his later arrests.

Murder Story

Dorangel Vargas Gomez, also known as "El comegente," was active in San Cristóbal, Táchira State, Venezuela, from 1995 to 1999. He targeted men, primarily drunks, drug addicts, and beggars. His method of killing involved clubbing his victims with a metal tube or rocks. After murdering them, he would dismember the bodies, taking the meat he wanted for consumption.

Vargas claimed that he preferred to eat men's flesh over women's. He stated that he avoided overweight men due to health concerns, specifically high cholesterol. He buried the heads of his victims and discarded the bones into nearby rivers.

In 1995, police began investigating the area around a bridge where he was known to spend time. Complaints from families about missing relatives led them to search for evidence. They eventually found remains that prompted a manhunt for Vargas.

He was arrested yet released due to a judicial error after a judge had ordered him sent to a psychiatric hospital. Vargas returned to the same area, where he continued to kill. In 1999, a renewed investigation due to more missing person reports led to his second arrest.

While he was detained, Vargas often spoke about his actions. He was found to have a habit of carrying knives while in custody. Over time, his mental health was assessed, and he was deemed a paranoid psychopath. As a result, he has not been tried for his crimes. Currently, he remains in custody, where he is observed to suffer from Parkinson's disease.
