Bio

Diego Santoy Riveroll was born in 1984 in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. He grew up in a typical environment for a young boy, receiving education and spending time with family and friends. Little is known about his childhood, as there aren’t many public records detailing his early years.

As a teenager, Diego attended a local high school and later pursued higher education at a university. He was described as a student who displayed average academic performance. During this period of his life, he began to develop a relationship with a girl named Érika Peña Coss. Their relationship went through ups and downs, but it became serious over time.

The couple faced challenges during their relationship. Eventually, Érika ended their romance for personal reasons. After the split, Diego struggled to accept the breakup. He continued to reach out to her, wanting to rekindle their relationship. This persistence marked a significant change in his behavior and mood.

Diego's life took a darker turn after the end of his relationship with Érika. His feelings of anger and betrayal grew as he became increasingly unhappy with the situation. He seemed to be unable to cope with the loss of his girlfriend, which caused turmoil in his life.

In the days leading up to the tragic events in March 2006, Diego and Érika had a complicated dynamic. Diego's behavior became notably erratic as he tried to come to terms with the breakup. The situation would lead to a series of events that would change his life forever. On March 2, 2006, Diego’s life took a catastrophic turn that involved violence and tragedy, but those details are outside the scope of his early life.

Diego was arrested four days later on March 7, 2006, at a roadblock in Oaxaca, Mexico. His life before this event is marked by his struggle with rejection and his tumultuous relationship with Érika. He was eventually sentenced to 138 years in prison on October 11, 2011.

Murder Story

On March 2, 2006, Diego Santoy Riveroll entered the house of his ex-girlfriend, Érika Peña Coss, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. Érika had recently ended their relationship, which upset Diego. When Érika woke up that morning, she found Diego inside her home wearing a mask. He began to attack her with a hammer and later threatened her life.

During the assault, Diego claimed he had already killed Érika's two younger siblings, Erick, 7, and María Fernanda, 3. Érika suffered severe injuries that required a lengthy surgery to save her life. After the attack, she managed to crawl to her office and asked her secretary to call for help. Diego had also attacked a servant during this time.

Four days later, on March 7, 2006, police arrested Diego at a roadblock in Oaxaca. While in custody, he initially confessed to the murders but later retracted his confession, alleging that it was coerced by the police. Diego's version of events accused Érika of playing a role in the murders, claiming she had suggested that he help her kill her siblings to get back at their mother.

The case became complicated as both Diego and Érika changed their stories over time. While Diego had been seen as the main suspect, the focus shifted toward the Peña Coss family’s actions and inconsistencies in their statements. Many people in the community and the media followed the case closely, nicknaming Diego "el asesino de Cumbres."

In October 2011, Diego was sentenced to 138 years in prison for his crimes. The details of the case and the various allegations made by both parties left many unanswered questions and continued to generate media attention.
