— Dennis Webb
Dennis Duane Webb was born in 1952 in Texas. He grew up in a troubled environment, largely in northeast Texas. Webb's early life was marked by instability. His parents were young and often fought, which created a chaotic home atmosphere. The family moved frequently and lived in various neighborhoods, which affected Webb's education and social life.
Webb's academic performance suffered during his school years. He struggled in school and began having problems as early as the sixth grade. He often skipped classes and eventually left school in the 10th grade. During his teenage years, he started using drugs and got involved in minor offenses that brought him to the attention of law enforcement.
At the age of 20, Webb was jailed for burglary. After serving time, he was released but continued to lead a life of crime. Reports suggest that he was influenced by the culture of outlaw motorcycle gangs, which he became involved with in the years following his release. These gangs played a significant role in his life, leading him to travel extensively and align himself with a violent lifestyle.
In the early 1980s, Webb faced additional legal troubles, including a conviction for robbery and aggravated kidnapping in Utah. He was sentenced to five and a half years but was paroled in December 1986. However, his time on the street was short-lived as he committed further criminal acts shortly thereafter.
Webb exhibited a history of violence and criminal behavior, with reports indicating that he had been involved in multiple crimes yet managed to evade significant consequences for many of them. His early life experiences and choices set the stage for the violent path he would follow later on.
On February 5, 1987, Dennis Webb broke into the home of John and Lori Rainwater in Atascadero, California. The couple was bound with tape and subjected to violence. John, 25, was struck multiple times on the head. Lori, 22, was similarly attacked. After some time, they managed to free themselves and attempted to escape. Tragically, both were shot as they fled. John Rainwater was shot in the chest and then in the back of the head, while Lori was shot in the head at close range.
The crime scene was chaotic, with blood found throughout the home, indicating a brutal struggle. Both bodies showed signs of severe injury. Authorities discovered the Rainwater children, a young girl and a newborn boy, unharmed under their mother. Investigators initially struggled to find suspects, but information from Webb’s ex-girlfriend led them to him.
In June 1988, Webb was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder, along with robbery and burglary. During the trial, he exhibited a lack of remorse, expressing a desire for the death penalty. He even admitted to additional murders, claiming to have killed several others. Webb flaunted his gang tattoos in court, reinforcing his identity as a murderer.
In August 1988, he was sentenced to death in California. Despite his gruesome past, he showed no regret for his actions or the impact they had on his victims’ families.
