1954Denise Labbe was born on March 17, 1926, in France. She grew up in a challenging environment. Tragically, she became an orphan at the young age of 13. After losing her parents, Denise had to work hard to create a life for herself. Despite her struggles, she managed to find happiness and had relationships in her life. One of these relationships led to the birth of her daughter, Catherine, who was born when Denise was around 24 years old.
In 1954, Denise met Jacques Algarron in Rennes, France. He was a philosophy student and was three years younger than Denise. Jacques had strong beliefs influenced by the works of Friedrich Nietzsche. He viewed himself and Denise as a super couple, wanting her to prove her worth to him in extreme ways.
Their relationship grew complicated when Jacques demanded more from Denise. He believed that she should show her love for him by committing an unthinkable act involving her daughter. This relationship changed Denise’s life in a drastic way. She found herself in a situation where she struggled between her love for her child and the demands of her partner. The pressure from Jacques impacted her decision-making deeply.
On November 8, 1954, Denise Labbe killed her two-year-old daughter, Catherine, in Rennes, France. She drowned her daughter in a wash basin. This act followed a series of events influenced by her lover, Jacques Algarron. Jacques had convinced her that to prove her love and loyalty to him, she needed to kill Catherine.
Denise attempted to carry out this act three times before finally succeeding. Earlier attempts included throwing Catherine out of a window and trying to drown her in a canal, but each time, maternal instinct and fear of harming her daughter made her stop. On the day of the murder, Denise fully realized Jacques's control over her decisions. The police were notified shortly after the incident, and Denise confessed to the crime.
Denise was arrested on the same day. She was charged with murder, while Jacques was charged with provoking her to commit the act. In 1956, Denise was sentenced to life in prison, and Jacques received a twenty-year sentence for his role in the crime.
