1985Delbert Boyd Teague Jr. was born on November 11, 1962. He grew up in the Houston area of Texas. Information about his childhood is limited, but as he grew older, Teague became involved in criminal activities.
As a young person, he had several run-ins with the law. He was arrested for various offenses, which included coaxing a homeless man into his car and later pushing him out while driving on a freeway. This experience led to his imprisonment as a juvenile.
Teague's criminal history continued into his adult life. In May 1982, he was involved in the shooting death of a man in Houston. In this case, he pleaded no contest and received a two-year prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter.
After this incident, he faced more legal troubles. He served a prison term for forgery and weapons possession and was released on parole after 13 months. During this time, his criminal behavior persisted. In May 1984, he and an accomplice were arrested in Oklahoma for burglary. They used false identities, which allowed them to post bond and avoid further immediate consequences.
Teague's life was marked by these patterns of crime and legal issues before he became known for the events that would lead to his arrest in April 1985.
On April 28, 1985, Delbert Boyd Teague Jr. and his accomplice, Robin Partine, committed a violent crime in Tarrant County, Texas. They approached a young couple, Donna Irwin and Tommie Cox, at Inspiration Point while asking for drugs. They then assaulted Cox, bound him with rope, and abducted Irwin. As they drove away in a stolen truck, Cox managed to free himself and flagged down three other men for help.
Teague soon returned to the scene and opened fire on the four-wheel drive vehicle containing the three men. He shot all of them in the head. Kevin Leroy Allen, one of the victims, died from his injuries shortly after the attack. The two other men suffered serious injuries, with one facing permanent brain damage. Teague and Partine then fled the area with Irwin.
The next day, Irwin escaped by leaving a note in a women's restroom at a truck stop in Louisiana. This note led to the capture of Teague and Partine after a high-speed chase. They were arrested on April 29, 1985, just west of Baton Rouge.
Teague was later found guilty of robbery and first-degree murder. He was sentenced to death on August 20, 1985. After several failed appeals, he was executed by lethal injection on September 9, 1998.
