On September 13, 1995, David Whitson committed a tragic crime in Scott Mills, Oregon. He shot and killed his estranged wife, Laura Whitson, who was 35 years old, and their three daughters: Sarah, age 6, Rachel, age 3, and April, who was just 6 months old. This act left the family devastated.

Earlier that day, David Whitson had been ordered to stay away from Laura due to their difficult divorce. Laura had moved to live with her mother, Margaret Magee. She had also secured a restraining order against David, citing that he had forced her to have sex.

After the murders, David Whitson was arrested on the same day. He faced four counts of aggravated murder. If convicted, he could have received the death penalty.

During the incident, Laura's mother, Margaret, was also shot but survived with an injury to her arm. David Whitson's actions caused immense pain and loss to many.
