Murder Story

On January 28, 1987, David Lee Sanders committed a robbery at a grocery store in Madison County, Kentucky. During this robbery, he shot and killed two grocery store clerks, Jim Brandenburg and Wayne Hatch. Sanders shot them in the back of the head. Jim Brandenburg died almost instantly, while Wayne Hatch died two days later from his injuries.

In addition to these murders, Sanders also confessed to another crime. A month before the grocery store robbery, he attempted to kill another grocery store worker. This victim survived after being shot in the back of the head.

David Lee Sanders was arrested for his crimes and was sentenced to death on June 5, 1987. His actions led to a significant legal case in Madison County.
