Bio

David D. Stevenson was born on June 6, 1974. He grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. He later became employed at Macy's Department Store in the Christiana Mall.

During his time at Macy's, Stevenson was involved in a crime related to credit card fraud. He used customers' credit card information to create fake gift certificates. This activity was discovered by Macy's security staff, including Kristopher Heath. Heath and another employee investigated Stevenson's actions. This investigation led to Stevenson facing charges of theft.

As the trial approached, tensions rose. On the night before a scheduled court date, an unknown person knocked on Heath's door. Heath's fiancée, Deborah Dorsey, answered the door but did not recognize the visitor. She was frightened when the man left and called Heath to warn him.

The morning of November 13, 1995, was significant. On this day, Kristopher Heath was set to testify against Stevenson. That same day, Heath was tragically murdered outside his apartment. The investigation that followed led police to Stevenson's vehicle, which helped identify him as a suspect.

Murder Story

On November 13, 1995, David D. Stevenson murdered Kristopher Heath in the parking lot of Heath's residence at the Cavalier Country Club Apartments in Wilmington, Delaware. Heath was set to testify against Stevenson at his criminal trial that same day. During the incident, Heath was shot five times in the back with a nine-millimeter handgun.

After the shooting, several residents of the apartment complex heard the gunfire and called the police. One resident, Lance Thompson, reported seeing a black male run away and get into a mid-sized blue car with faded paint. He noted the license plate number and provided it to the police.

Police quickly traced the license plate back to Stevenson and his mother. Shortly afterward, police arrived at their home. Upon arrival, they saw a car matching the description pull up with two black men inside. The men got out but then re-entered the vehicle when they noticed the police. The car sped away, leading the officers on a brief chase before the suspects fled on foot and were apprehended.

The two men in the car were identified as David Stevenson and another individual named Manley. Manley matched the description given by witnesses of the shooter. During a search of the police car where Stevenson was being held, officers found a slip of paper with the name, address, and phone number of Parminder Chona, the Macy's employee who had investigated Stevenson's theft along with Heath.

David D. Stevenson was arrested on the same day as the murder. He was later sentenced to death on February 3, 2006.
