As of January 2026, Moore had no prior criminal record and was not known to law enforcement. Details regarding his upbringing, education, employment, or mental health status have not yet been disclosed by authorities. Moore came to public attention only after his arrest in connection with a series of shootings that occurred on the evening of January 9, 2026.
At the time of the killings, Moore was 24 years old. His sudden and violent actions shocked the local community, especially given the absence of prior offenses or documented behavioral warnings. The shootings appeared to be targeted rather than random, but a definitive motive had not been publicly released as of January 13.
murder story
On January 9, 2026, a mass killing unfolded across multiple sites in Clay County, Mississippi, beginning just before 7 p.m. The suspect, 24-year-old Daricka M. Moore, allegedly carried out a coordinated series of shootings that resulted in six deaths, including members of his own family and a local pastor.
The first attack took place at a family residence on David Hill Road in western Clay County. There, Moore fatally shot three relatives: his 67-year-old father Glenn Moore, his 33-year-old brother Quinton Moore, and his 55-year-old uncle Willie Ed Guines. All three were shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene. After the initial killings, Moore stole his brother's Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck and left the property.
A short time later, Moore arrived at another family home on Blake Road. There, he allegedly forced his way inside and attempted to commit a sexual assault. He then shot and killed a 7-year-old female cousin by placing a firearm to her head and pulling the trigger. He also reportedly pointed the weapon at a younger child but either did not fire or the weapon misfired. Two other individuals—an adult woman and a third child—were also present but not physically harmed. The first emergency call was made at 6:56 p.m. from this location, reporting gunshot victims at the residence.
Moore then drove to a third location: the Apostolic Church of the Lord Jesus on Siloam-Griffin Road. He reportedly parked behind the church and entered an adjacent residence. Inside, he fatally shot Reverend Barry Bradley and his brother, Samuel Bradley, both of whom were shot in the head. Moore stole a vehicle from the scene before fleeing.
The final incident was reported in a second 911 call later that evening. A law enforcement manhunt followed, and Moore was apprehended at 11:24 p.m. at a police roadblock near the intersection of Pine Grove Road and Joe Myers Road, close to one of the earlier crime scenes. At the time of arrest, he was in possession of both a rifle and a handgun.
All six victims were declared dead at their respective scenes. The state medical examiner is conducting official autopsies to confirm causes of death. No other injuries were reported during the incident.
Moore was taken into custody and booked into the Clay County Jail before sunrise on January 10. He was charged with first-degree murder, with charges expected to be upgraded to capital murder. Clay County District Attorney Scott Colom announced his intention to pursue the death penalty in this case. Moore was held without bail and is expected to be appointed a public defender. His initial court appearance was scheduled for January 12.
