Coy Wayne Wesbrook was born on February 1, 1958, in Houston, Texas. In July 1995, he married Gloria Jean Coons. Before their marriage, they had lived together for some time. Their union did not last long, as they divorced in November 1997. After the divorce, Wesbrook sought forgiveness and tried to reconcile with Coons.
murder story
On November 12, 1997, Coy Wayne Wesbrook went to a party at his ex-wife Gloria Coons' home in Channelview, Texas. The party included several guests, including Diana Money and three other men. Wesbrook had hoped to reconnect with Coons, but things took a different turn. He became upset when the attendees started mocking him about Coons having been unfaithful.
At some point during the party, Wesbrook discovered Coons with two men in a bedroom. This discovery fueled his anger. While he had briefly left the gathering to retrieve his keys, he returned shortly afterward with a .30-06 hunting rifle. Once back, the guests continued to taunt him. During the confrontation, Money threw a beer can at Wesbrook, causing him to accidentally discharge the rifle, which resulted in her death.
In panic, Cruz and Rogers, two of the men present, attempted to flee. Wesbrook fired at them as well. He then moved to the bedroom where Coons and another man, Hazlip, were located and shot them both, fatally injuring Hazlip and killing Coons.
Around 2 a.m., a neighbor heard the gunshots and quickly called 911. After hearing further shots, the neighbor knew something was wrong and went next door to check. Witnesses reported seeing Wesbrook at the scene when the police arrived, leading to his arrest.
Wesbrook later stood trial for the murders, where he confessed to the killings but claimed he had acted in a fit of rage. On August 13, 1998, he was sentenced to death by lethal injection. Despite challenges to his mental state and requests for a new trial, Wesbrook was executed on March 9, 2016.
