Clover Demarr Smith was born on January 25, 1975, in South Florida. She spent most of her early life in Royal Palm Beach, living in a house on Carmen Lane. When Clover was seven years old, her father abandoned the family. After that, she lived with different relatives, including her mother, grandmother, and aunt. During her childhood, Clover claimed that she faced abuse and beatings from her mother's partner over the course of 15 years.

As a girl, Clover moved around a lot and often felt neglected. Her early experiences and the unstable environment might have affected her emotional state. She completed her schooling in Royal Palm Beach but struggled with her family situation. Clover had a difficult childhood and was known to have emotional problems throughout her teenage years.

At the age of 19, Clover got married to Steven Boykin. She became pregnant while they were dating and later gave birth to a son. The couple lived in a four-bedroom house with Steven's mother and sister. Even though she had a new family, Clover’s life was complicated. She faced many challenges, including the pressures of marriage and motherhood.

murder story

Clover Boykin committed her first murder on November 16, 1993. She was 18 years old and working as a nanny for family friends. She killed 9-month-old Kayla Basante, a child she was babysitting. Her actions were initially believed to be a tragic accident. However, a year later, in 1994, Clover's second murder occurred on October 27. This time, she killed her own 5-month-old son, Dayton Boykin.

Shortly after Dayton's death, Clover was arrested and charged. During questioning, she confessed to murdering both infants. Until that point, Kayla’s death was thought to be from natural causes. After the investigation into Dayton's death, the truth about Kayla's killing was revealed.

Clover Boykin received life imprisonment for the murder of Kayla Basante. She also received an additional 40 years imprisonment for the second-degree murder of her son, Dayton. In total, she was sentenced to life plus 40 years, with the possibility of parole after 25 years. She was held in isolation due to the nature of her crimes and reported feelings of severe loneliness while in prison.
